Varank Highlights Domestic Lens Solution Production in Turkey

Commenting to Anadolu Agency (AA) about his visit, Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank emphasized that the company signed an important R&D and production project with OSTİM Technical University, stating:
"They produced and launched the domestic and national lens solution here."

Varank noted that lens solutions have so far been imported from abroad, causing an approximate $120 million deficit in this sector, and confirmed that the company obtained the necessary permits and certifications for its lens solutions.

Highlighting that Turkish lens users now have access to a domestic product, Varank said:
"We are a government striving for development through domestic production. We particularly prioritize the development of value-added products and those in which we face a trade deficit, using domestic capabilities. This company, with support and incentives from our government, especially from KOSGEB, produced this product within the framework of university-industry collaboration."

“We Will Announce a Call for Health and Chemical Products”

Referring to the Technology-Oriented Industrial Move Program they launched, Varank added:
"We support all stages of products—from R&D to commercialization—where we face a trade deficit. We provide support to our companies in selected product groups, including the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. In the coming period, within the scope of the program, we will issue a call and support projects for products and medicines not yet produced in Turkey."

Varank expressed satisfaction that Jeomed, with KOSGEB support, produces lens solutions that previously were imported, and stated that they will continue to support localization efforts across all sectors.

“We Aim to Export 6 Million Boxes in One Year”

Süleyman Polat, Chairman of Jeomed, said that in the early years of the company, they imported health products and later had them contract-manufactured by pharmaceutical companies. However, since the quality did not meet their expectations, they established their own production facilities.

Polat said:
"We aimed for our products to be effective against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, while also incorporating Turkey’s natural thermal waters. Since no manufacturer could achieve this, we set up our own laboratory."

Referring to Turkey’s geothermal resources, Polat added:
"We have always used geothermal water in our products. When enriched with tea tree oil, our health products—rich in sulfur, vitamins, and minerals—resulted in extraordinary shampoos, soaps, creams, and lotions."

He emphasized that most commercial shampoos contain harmful substances, but their products do not, making them safe for use.

Polat noted that by participating in international congresses and fairs, they began exporting 14 patented products worldwide.
"Because users provide positive feedback, we have reached an export volume covering 51 countries, including Greece, the USA, Russia, India, and Ecuador. With the lens solution we produce, we will also increase our export volume, aiming to export 6 million boxes of lens solution within a year."

Pointing out Turkey’s large trade deficit in health products, Polat stated:
"Let’s trust our domestic products and support our local companies. As local companies succeed, we will invest, open new factories, and purchase new machines. We will contribute to our country’s development by employing many unemployed people. If we produce high value-added products, we can succeed."
